Criminal Defense

The consequences of a criminal conviction can be severe and life-changing.  You could face a jail or prison sentence, a costly fine, court-ordered restitution, probation, or suspension of your driver’s license.  If you are a service member, the consequences can be especially dire and potentially career-ending. If you are accused of a crime, your reputation, freedom, and career might be at stake.

If you are a veteran, many cities and counties have specialized veteran courts. These courts are focused on the rehabilitation of veterans and address the unique issues members of the armed forces face when they return home from their service. Veteran courts were established to focus on the most serious issues facing the veteran community, including unemployment, PTSD, TBI, and substance abuse.

If you face prosecution in federal, state, or military court, you should contact an experienced criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. Attorney Scott J. Friedman is prepared to protect your rights and defend your interests.

Security Clearance Denials/Revocations

Anyone who needs access to classified information to do their job requires a security clearance. If you are a federal employee, member of the military, or government contractor, your career likely depends on obtaining and maintaining a security clearance. Unfortunately, security clearance denials are common. Applying for a security clearance requires an individual to undergo a comprehensive background investigation into all aspects of his or her personal and professional history. While there are many different reasons a security clearance could be denied, the most common include concerns related to “divided loyalties,” drug use, omitting certain information from your application, criminal convictions, or indebtedness.

If you were denied a security clearance, your career could be in jeopardy. Fortunately, you will have an opportunity to appeal that decision. If you have been denied a security clearance, or if your security clearance has been suspended or revoked, you need an experienced advocate to defend your rights.

VA Disability Appeals

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers a monthly payment to Veterans who became sick or injured while serving in the military. You may qualify for disability benefits for physical and mental health conditions that developed, or became worse, because of your service.

Your overall VA disability rating is used to calculate your monthly disability payments. Higher ratings will often have higher monthly payments.  If you disagree with the VA’s decision regarding your disability rating or eligibility, you may appeal. Unfortunately, the process is often complex and bureaucratic. Attorney Scott J. Friedman is accredited by the VA and authorized to represent veterans in the appeals process.
